Upcoming NERC OpenStack Platform upgrade to version 16.2.6 and floating IP network expansion will occur on Monday January 29, 2024 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

• We are writing to inform you that we are planning to upgrade our NERC OpenStack Platform to version 16.2.6. This will take the majority of the maintenance period.

• We will also be expanding the currently available floating IP space to support a large number of users and projects. This work should take ~1hr and will be done after the upgrade work has completed successfully (most likely in the afternoon).

NOTICES

• We have rescheduled the planned NERC OpenStack Platform version upgrade to a new date to include expansion of NERC OpenStack Floating IPs.

• NERC OpenStack’s Horizon dashboard and other OpenStack API services may be inaccessible at times during this process.

• The RHOSP upgrade process should not affect any of your running VMs and used storage including volumes and object storage. However, during the expansion of the floating IP space after the upgrade, VMs will be temporarily unable to get out to the internet and will also be temporarily unreachable from the internet. We expect the floating IP expansion to take around an hour to complete. We will update the status page if it takes more or less time.

• Please be aware that during this maintenance, project and project change requests will not be accepted and approved.

• We are reserving the whole day, from 9am to 5pm. It can take more or less time, so we urge you to keep an eye on https://nerc.instatus.com/ to get the progress during this time.

Upcoming renewal and upgrade of NERC OpenStack Platform SSL Certificates will occur on Thursday January 4, 2024 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

Upcoming NERC’s ColdFront upgrade and maintenance will occur on Monday November 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

• We will be upgrading to a newer version of ColdFront that will support OpenShift Resource allocations attributes for GPU quota. This enables users to use NVIDIA GPUs on NERC OpenShift. Also, all new approved allocation on NERC-OCP (OpenShift) resource type will have Red Hat OpenShift Data Science (RHODS) Platform enabled by default. This enables NERC users to rapidly develop, train, and test Artificial Intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML) models along with setting up accelerated AI/ML workflows and the delivery of AI-powered intelligent applications.

• This upgrade will cause some outages to the NERC’s ColdFront service.

NOTICES

• We are upgrading and updating NERC's ColdFront deployment.

• After the upgrade, PIs and Project Manager(s) will be able to request NVIDIA GPUs on NERC OpenShift resource allocations.

• All newly approved NERC-OCP (OpenShift) resource allocation will have enabled RHODS workbench access.

We are planning to reboot the NERC's OpenStack Hypervisors on Tuesday November 21, 2023 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

NOTICES

• We will be rebooting all of the NERC OpenStack Hypervisors, which are hosting virtual machines.

• This upgrade will cause brief outages to your VMs hosted on NERC’s OpenStack. VM services and SSH access will be momentarily unavailable.

• OpenStack APIs will briefly be down, and any active object storage transfers will be interrupted.

• Please do not launch any new VMs or initiate data transfers to/from existing VMs during this time.
